What tiffin management software does

Tiffin management software runs the daily cycle of a meal-subscription business: collecting orders and subscriptions, taking payment in advance, telling the kitchen what to cook, planning delivery rounds, tracking riders, handling complaints and refunds, and reporting on the money. It usually comes as a customer app, a rider app and a back-office panel.

The important word is subscription. A restaurant takes a new order every time; a tiffin service delivers the same customers every day. Software built for restaurants makes you re-enter what should repeat automatically.

Do you need it yet?

Not every kitchen needs software on day one. WhatsApp and a spreadsheet can run a handful of customers. The signs that you have outgrown them are practical:

  • Building the daily list takes longer than cooking a dish
  • Payments are late, and you do not like asking
  • Meals are cooked for customers who told you they were away
  • Riders deliver in a poor order, or call to ask where to go next
  • Customers call to ask where their food is

The must-have features

Use this as a checklist in every demo. If a vendor cannot show a feature working live, assume it does not exist.

How tiffin software is priced

There are four common models, and they suit different businesses. The cheapest in month one is rarely the cheapest by year three.

Monthly subscription (SaaS)

You pay a monthly fee, sometimes with order limits or per-order charges above them, and sometimes a separate fee for branded apps. Low to start; you pay for as long as you use it, and your apps and data sit on the vendor's platform. Published examples on 18 September 2026 ranged from ₹199 a month for simple tools to $250 a month plus up to 1.5% of transactions for full meal-prep suites.

Commission per order

Marketplaces and some platforms take a percentage of each order. Nothing upfront, but the cost grows with every order you sell, and your customers are shown competitors.

One-time licence (white-label)

You pay once for the software, set up in your own accounts under your brand, and then pay only running costs (hosting, database, maps) to the providers. Higher upfront; lower over time, and the apps and data stay yours.

Custom development

An agency builds an app to your specification. Maximum control, but the highest cost and longest timeline, and every future change needs a developer.

Total cost over three years

Put every option on the same three-year basis before you decide. Include the monthly fee, per-order or transaction fees at your volume, branded-app fees, hosting you pay separately, and any support renewals.

Ownership: the question most buyers forget

Your customer list is the most valuable thing your business owns. Before you sign, get clear answers to these:

  • Whose developer account are the apps published under — yours or the vendor's?
  • Where does the database live, and in whose name?
  • Can you export your customers, orders and balances at any time?
  • If you stop paying or leave, do the apps keep working?
  • Does the vendor use your customer data for anything else?

Security: how is wallet money protected?

A prepaid wallet holds your customers' money, so it is a target. Ask how balances change: they should only move through checked operations on the server, never by the app writing a number directly. Ask whether the vendor has tested abuse cases — negative quantities, self-applied discounts, fake payment confirmations, referral farming — and whether the database is backed up daily.

Questions to ask in every demo

  1. Show me a customer pausing one meal on one day. What happens to the payment?
  2. Show me the kitchen count at the cutoff, split by dish and size.
  3. Plan tomorrow's rounds for three riders, live.
  4. What does a rider see, and how does a new rider learn it?
  5. How is a complaint resolved and refunded?
  6. What will I pay in total over three years at my volume?
  7. Whose name is on the store listing, and whose account holds the data?
  8. How long until my customers can order, and what slows it down?

Red flags

  • Features that are only shown in slides, never live
  • Per-order fees that are not stated in writing
  • Apps that can only be published under the vendor's account
  • No clear answer on exporting your data
  • Payments that are "confirmed" by the app with no server-side check

Where TifTif fits — honestly

TifTif is a one-time white-label platform built for the tiffin model: subscriptions with pause, a prepaid wallet, cutoffs, kitchen counts, route planning, a rider app and live tracking, set up in your own accounts. It suits businesses delivering regularly to the same customers who want to own their app and data.

It is not a marketplace that brings you customers, it does not calculate nutrition for meal-prep plans, and each setup runs one kitchen. If you need those, tell us on a demo call — or choose a tool built for them.
